Vodka martini tonight. Stoli to be exact (I'm out of gin).

Cocktail Hour Music - Seth MacFarlane

I'm not quite sure what to make of his Oscar hosting gig. Was he sexist, misogynistic, or just being satirical? Regardless, he sang standards and I can't hold THAT against him. Tonight we listed to his album for cocktail hour. I quite like it.

I recently came upon a bag of oranges. Don't ask me how. Anyway, I've been making lots of orange juice and tonight I made a screwdriver. I haven't had one of those in ages. I used Stoli for the vodka.

Cocktail Hour - Saturday January 26, 2013

Used one of my new champagne coupes for a couple martinis on Saturday night. What a cool glass. It reminds me of what people drank cocktails in in old movies from the 1930s. It just so happens that Dale and I watched The Thin Man tonight.

Cocktails (or Not) with Mike

Dale and I had Mike and Charisse over for dinner last night. I texted him earlier in the week about something else and he came back with the following: "I am currently undertaking a January body detox so no Martinis for me until February." My response was: "But you're coming over this weekend, goofball." Once I reached a point of acceptance that he wouldn't be having a cocktail with me I decided I'd drink Sidecars so he wouldn't feel like he was missing out on martinis. I think the sidecar intrigued him though so maybe I'll get him to try one of those the next time we get together.

Champagne Coupe

I recently found a pair of champagne coupe glasses promoted in GQ magazine and decided to order a pair from amazon.com. The came the other day and I love 'em. They're petite but solid. Here's the description of them that appears on amazon: "With the repeal of Prohibition in 1933, the air was filled with the sound of clinking glasses, not in tall flutes, but in swellegant, bowl-shaped coupes. Champagne, after all, deserves a full, real wine glass with both shape and dimension. (When you hold them you feel fabulous). Many classic short cocktails are now served in a coupe rather than a martini (or cocktail) glass, so these versatile glasses serve double duty."
