Pete's Bar - Mount Vernon Shot Glass
I'm home from Virginia now but while there we all took a hike to Mount Vernon. I bought my brother Pete this shot glass and he placed it on his bar at his house. I was a tad jealous he has a bar as I've always wanted one. Maybe someday.

Drinks at Bilbo Baggins
I'm in Washington D.C. visiting my brother Pete and his family. Last night we went for dinner at a restaurant in Alexandria, Virginia called Bilbo Baggins and started out with drinks. Pete and Mom had beer and I had a Hendricks martini. The food at the restaurant was great but I found the martini to be a bit weak. Pictured is a sign that I spotted in the restaurant.

FDR's Martini
" 1 part gin, 1/2 part vermouth, 1 teaspoon olive brine.
Roosevelt shook his martinis with cracked ice, added one olive, rubbed the glass rim with a lemon peel and imbibed to 'relieve his back pain.' His staff said he was a sloppy mixer because he was apt to dump orange juice, grapefruit juice, or anisette into his drinks too. He like to do his international negotiating over shared martinis."
-from The Little Black Book of Martinis
"It is cold on the stomach."
-Stalin, on FDR's martini, at the 1943 Tehran Conference
"...America's lethal weapon."
-Nikita Khrushchev, on the even stronger martini Eisenhower gave him

Cocktail Shaker Collection Part 2
My next cocktail shaker came from Crate & Barrel and was purchased in about 2003. The indentations on it make me think of the early 1960's.

Cocktail Hour at Warren and Gary's
Cocktails before dinner at Warren and Gary's. They introduced us to their friend John. Gary mixed me up a Tanqueray martini. He used quite a bit more vermouth than I ever would but it was still quite good.

Cocktail Shaker Collection Part 1
This is the first cocktail shaker I ever purchased and I believe it's from Williams-Sonoma. I think it dates to about 2001. Simple and classic in its design. It has served me very well.

Cocktail Hour - March 2, 2011
Cocktail tonight is a Bombay Sapphire martini. Here's how I made it:
Fill martini glass with Bombay Sapphire and dump into a shaker. Line glass with vermouth and add one drop to the shaker. Dump the rest of the vermouth. Shake with ice and strain.
Cocktail hour music is The Gate by Kurt Elling.
