Cocktail Hour - Saturday August 13, 2011

We had Mike and Charisse over for dinner this past Saturday. For cocktail hour Mike had his usually vodka martini (I used Shaker's vodka) and I had my usual gin martini. Now, Mike likes his martinis dirty with olives and lots of olive juice. I was sure I had olives on hand but I didn't (D'oh!). Instead we substituted a lime wedge at Mike's suggestion. It worked! I had a lime wedge with my Tanqueray martini as well. Charisse drank Amstel Light beer and Dale didn't drink as he's been having some trouble with headaches lately. Mike picked out some Billie Holiday for music. When that was finished playing he picked Cocktail Mix Vol. 2: Martini Madness from the Cocktail Mix collection.

Dale, Mom and I ate at Mission Restaurant at the IDS Center in downtown Minneapolis. I had a Bombay Sapphire martini.

Cocktail Hour in Arvada

Dale and I stayed with John and Dianne in Arvada, Colorado this past weekend. After dinner drinks included a martini for me and a gin and tonic for John in the hot tub (don't worry, we kept the temp a little lower and were well hydrated).

Dale and I are in Colorado visiting his folks, Brenda and Irv. Irv is a big fan of cocktail hour and, although not a martini drinker, he let's me mix one up for him when we're out to visit. On our last visit I bought him a martini shaker and a couple martini glasses for when we're here because it helps, of course, to have the proper tools. We used Bombay Sapphire gin and a little vermouth. Olives were a must.
