Bombay Sapphire for martinis tonight rather than my usual Tanqueray. Olives too for that matter. Wasn't sure if I wanted to go the olive route. I found myself asking, "WWMD?" [What would (my friend) Mike do?]. Decision made!

Gary and Warren are visiting us up at the lake this weekend. I drank Tanqueray martinis, Gary made a bloody Mary and then moved on to a vodka martini, Warren had a rum and soda water with a bit of Rose's lime juice, and Dale had a Rolling Rock. It's fun sitting on the deck in the North Woods and having a drink.

Tanqueray martini tonight. I need it. This summer class I'm takin' is gonna do me in. Listening to one of my favorite Frank Sinatra albums right now - Come Fly with Me. It's the one with all the travel/destination songs on it. I'm on the porch, the sun is shining, and it's all good.

New Martini Glasses

As many of my martini glasses are chipping, I decided to get some new ones today. When at the cash register the clerk asked if I drank gin or vodka martinis. I, of course, told her gin. She said that when you go out these days, vodka is pretty much the default liquor for martinis, gimlets etc. Not being serious, I glanced over both shoulders and then,being serious, I said, "I know! I'll admit I'm a gin snob. It's the only way to make a real martini." She asked if I liked Hendrick's. I told her it was my favorite and it turned out it's her favorite too. It's always nice to run in to a kindred spirit.

Yes, I did switch to vodka for my next one. I'm using Shaker's and my bottle is fast running out. The Shaker's company has shut down which is sad, just sad. It was a Minnesota made vodka and it was made at a converted ethanol plant with the same equipment that had been used to make the ethanol. It was my favorite vodka. I guess all good things must come to an end. Sadly this one ended way too soon.

Lovely night for cocktails. It's sunny and hot - very hot and humid. I have the AC on and am in the sun drenched porch with a fan drawing in the cool air from the living room. I'm out of Tanqueray and Hendrick's. On top of that it's Sunday so the liquor stores aren't open. I'm having to settle for that Dry Fly gine. I can barely stand it. If you're into sweet syrupy smooth gin then you'll probably like this stuff. I think I'll be switching to vodka for my next one.
